Ingredients

  • 2 c. water
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. raisins
  • 2 Tbsp. rum or 1/2 tsp. each: rum and vanilla extract
  • 4 apples, peeled, cored and quartered

Method

  • Bring water, sugar and nutmeg to boil in a large deep skillet. Boil 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly reduced in volume.
  • Add rum and apples.
  • Cover and simmer over low heat, 10 to 15 minutes, gently stirring 2 or 3 times until apples are tender.
  • Remove from heat and stir in raisins.
  • Serves 4.
