Ingredients
- 2 c. sifted cake flour
- 2 tsp. Calumet baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. molasses
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 2/3 c. milk
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
Method
- Sift
- flour
- once;
- measure
- and
- add baking powder and salt. Sift
- together
- times.
- Cream butter thoroughly; add sugar gradually
- and
- cream
- together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, then flour alternately with milk a small amount at a time. Beat after
- each addition until smooth. Divide batter into 2
- parts. To one
- part add spices and molasses.
- Put by tablespoon into greased loaf pan, 8 x 4 x 3-inches, alternating light
- and dark molasses.
- Bake in moderate oven at 325° for 1
- hour and 15 minutes. Spread butter frostings on top and sides of cake.
