Ingredients

  • 1 whole Granny Smith Apple, Cored And Sliced
  • 1/2 whole Red Onion, Sliced
  • 1/4 cups Demerara Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoons Cinnamon
  • 1 whole Pinch Of Cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoons Ground Ginger
  • 3/4 teaspoons Crushed Chili Pepper Flakes
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 cloves Garlic, Minced, Divided
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 2 whole Pita Breads
  • 4 slices Bacon, Cooked Until Crispy Then Crumbled
  • 3/4 cups Cheddar Cheese, Shredded

Method

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Place the onion and apple in a large bowl.
  • Add sugar, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, chili pepper flakes, salt and 2 cloves of garlic.
  • Toss to coat.
  • Melt butter and 1 Tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
  • Add apple and onion mixture and saute until the apples are tender.
  • About five minutes.
  • Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Brush the pitas with the rest of the olive oil and sprinkle with the remainder of the garlic.
  • Top pitas with apples and onions and sprinkle with cheese and bacon.
  • Bake in the oven for five minutes then turn the oven to broil (keeping a close eye on them) for 1-2 minutes.
  • Slice into quarters and serve.
