Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 5-6 Tbsp. ice water

Method

  • Put 2 cups flour in bowl. Add salt and shortening. Measure shortening by displacing water in a measuring cup.
  • Cut the shortening into the flour using two knives. Don't overwork the dough or it won't be flakey.
  • Add ice water, 1 Tbsp. at a time until dough is moist, but not wet.
  • Sprinkle rolling surface with flour, and also the rolling pin,
  • Divide dough in half. Roll bottom dough; then add pie filling, then put on top dough.
  • Pinch or tuck edges. Make slits for steam to escape. Use little leaf cut-outs to decorate the top.
  • Brush dough with milk for golden browning.
