Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 3/4 c. sour cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Method

  • Melt butter or margarine in heavy pot over medium-low heat. Add brown sugar; heat to boiling.
  • Add sugar, pinch of salt and sour cream.
  • Cook over low heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves and mixture reaches soft ball stage (236°).
  • Cool at room temperature until lukewarm (110°).
  • Do not stir.
  • Beat until mixture holds its shape.
  • Add vanilla and nuts.
