Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ground mace
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 c. milk

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Grease 8-inch square baking pan.
  • Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices together into a large mixing bowl.
  • Place butter in a large mixing bowl and cream until soft.
  • Gradually beat in the sugar and eggs.
  • Stir in pecans.
  • Add the flour mixture alternately with molasses and milk, beating well after each addition.
  • Spoon into pan.
  • Bake 40 to 50 minutes.
