Ingredients

  • 1 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
  • 4 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced thin
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 9 slices day-old French or Italian bread

Method

  • In saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter and corn syrup until thick.
  • Pour into ungreased 9 x 13 inch pan, arrange apples on top of syrup.
  • In a bowl, beat eggs, milk and vanilla.
  • Dip bread in egg mixture and arrange over top of apples.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking and uncover.
  • Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 35 - 40 minutes or until top is browned.
