Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. orange juice
  • rind of 1 orange, grated
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 pt. heavy whipping cream
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1 angel food cake

Method

  • Mix in saucepan the sugar and flour.
  • Add orange and lemon juices, orange rind, beaten egg and butter.
  • Cook until thick, stirring constantly; chill thoroughly.
  • Add 1/2 pint heavy cream, whipped.
  • Slit angel food cake into 3 layers.
  • Top each slice with whipped cream mixture and place together.
  • Cover sides with whipped cream mixture and garnish with mandarin orange slice, if desired.
  • Place in refrigerator overnight.
