Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet onions
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • 3/4 c. boiling water
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. margarine
  • 1/2 c. bread crumbs
  • 2 Tbsp. melted margarine
  • 1/4 c. grated sharp Cheddar cheese

Method

  • Peel and slice onions, arrange in baking dish, overlapping slices.
  • Dissolve bouillon cube in boiling water.
  • Add thyme and pour over onions.
  • Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Dot with margarine.
  • Cover and bake at 400° for 20 minutes.
  • Toss bread crumbs with the melted margarine.
  • Add cheese. Sprinkle crumbs and cheese over onions.
  • Bake, uncovered, 10 minutes longer.
