Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 c. soft shortening
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 unbeaten eggs

Method

  • Sift together flour, sugar, soda, salt and cocoa into large mixing bowl.
  • Add shortening and 2/3 cup buttermilk.
  • Beat 2 minutes on medium speed. Add remaining buttermilk and eggs.
  • Beat 2 more minutes. Use two greased 8-inch round layer pans or 13 x 9-inch cake pan (metal preferred).
  • Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
