Ingredients

  • 12 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Method

  • 1.
  • In a large bowl, cream together shortening and sugar.
  • Beat in the molasses, egg and vanilla.
  • Combine the flour, oats, baking soda, cinnamon and salt in a small bowl.
  • Gradually add to the creamed mixture.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • 2.
  • Roll into 1 1/2 inch balls.
  • Place 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cool on sheet for 5 minutes then remove to wire rack to cool completely.
