Ingredients
- 2 c. boiling water
- 1 c. old fashioned rolled oats
- 2 envelopes dry yeast
- 1/3 c. warm water
- 2 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. honey or molasses
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- about 6 c. flour
Method
- In a large bowl, pour boiling water over oats; let stand for 1/2 hour.
- Dissolve yeast in warm water; let stand 5 minutes. Stir salt, molasses and butter into oats.
- Stir in yeast. Gradually add 4 cups flour.
- Knead in remaining 2 cups flour. Shape dough in mound in center of bowl.
- Cover; let rise in warm place until double.
- Punch down.
- Divide dough in half.
- Shape into loaf.
- Place in well-greased loaf pans.
- Cover and let rise until double, 1 to 2 hours.
- Bake in preheated 325° oven for 50 minutes, or until loaf sounds hollow.
