Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. milk or evaporated milk
  • 1/3 c. cocoa
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Mix sugar, cocoa, flour and salt.
  • Add 1/2 cup milk to well beaten egg yolks, then blend into dry ingredients.
  • Stir until all lumps are dissolved.
  • Add remaining milk and mix.
  • Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  • Then cook over low heat until desired thickness.
  • Add vanilla and butter.
  • Stir and set aside until crust is ready.
  • Pour into slightly baked crust.
  • Top with meringue.
  • Brown in 400° oven.
