Ingredients

  • 1 34 cups boiling water
  • 1 12 cups oatmeal
  • 34 cup shortening
  • 1 12 cups white sugar
  • 1 12 cups brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 12 teaspoons baking soda
  • 34 teaspoon salt
  • 1 12 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 14 teaspoon nutmeg

Method

  • Mix together Oatmeal and Boiling Water, Let cool 20 minutes.
  • In mixing bowl cream Shortening, White Sugar, Brown Sugar, Vanilla and Eggs.
  • Add Oatmeal mixture.
  • Stir in Flour, Soda, Salt, Cinnamon and Nutmeg.
  • Bake at 350 degrees in a greased 9x13 pan for 50 minutes.
  • Cool cake and top with Caramel Icing.
