- 1 1/2 lb. round steak
- 3 Tbsp. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 tsp. chili powder
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes, chopped
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 medium carrot, sliced
- 1/2 to 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 green pepper, sliced
- hot cooked rice or noodles
Method
- Cut meat into 6 serving size pieces.
- Combine flour, salt, pepper and chili powder; pound 2 tablespoons of mixture into meat. Heat shortening in 10-inch skillet; brown meat on both sides. Drain excess fat from skillet.
- Add undrained tomatoes, onion, celery, carrot, Worcestershire sauce and pepper.
- Cover.
- Simmer for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- Remove meat; place on a warm serving plate.
- Skim excess fat off sauce.
- Combine 1/4 cup water with remaining flour mixture and stir into sauce.
- Cook, stirring, for 2 minutes.
- Serve meat and sauce over hot cooked rice or noodles. Makes 6 servings.
