Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. light molasses
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 2 tsp. vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1/2 tsp. soda

Method

  • Butter sides of 2-quart kettle.
  • Add first 3 ingredients.
  • Heat slowly to a boil, stirring constantly.
  • Add vinegar (white).
  • Cook to light crack stage, 268°.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Add butter and sift in soda.
  • Stir to mix.
  • Turn out on buttered plate (do not scrape). Turn edges to center.
  • With buttered fingers, pull as warm as you can handle.
  • Cut in quarters.
  • Pull and clip with shears.
  • Wrap in wax paper.
