Ingredients

  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 3 1/2 c. flour

Method

  • Cream sugar and shortening
  • together, then add eggs and molasses.
  • Mix spices with
  • flour.
  • Alternately
  • add flour and buttermilk.
  • Chill and roll
  • out.
  • Cut
  • with cookie cutter and place on lightly greased pan.
  • Bake at 350° until done.
  • Makes approximately 5 dozen, depending
  • on
  • size
  • of
  • cookies.
  • They keep well and can be frozen.
