Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 6 Tbsp flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 3 tsp vanilla or almond extract to taste
- 1 cup butter
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
Method
- Melt 1/2 cup butter in saucepan over low heat. Blend in flour. Gradually stir in milk. Cook until mixture thickens and comes to boiling. Cool to room temperature. Add almond extract. Cream remaining butter with sugar till fluffy; gradually add milk mixture, beating until frosting is fluffy and of spreading consistency, about 5 minutes. Generously frosts sides and tops of two 9-inch layers.
- In hot weather, chill frosting before spreading on cake.
