Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c. strong coffee
  • 1/4 c. dark rum
  • 5 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/8 tsp. salt

Method

  • Place coffee and rum in a pan; bring to a simmer.
  • Add chocolate and butter.
  • Cook, stirring occasionally, until all are melted.
  • Remove from heat.
  • In a large bowl, beat the eggs. Gradually beat in sugar until mixture is thick.
  • Beat in vanilla and chocolate mixture.
  • In a separate bowl, stir together flour, baking soda and salt.
  • Beat into chocolate mixture.
  • Bake in a greased and floured tube pan at 275° for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Transfer to rack to cool overnight.
