Ingredients

  • 2 oz. chocolate, finely cut
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 7 Tbsp. milk
  • 2 Tbsp. Crisco
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. corn syrup
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Place chocolate, sugar, milk, Crisco, butter, corn syrup and salt in saucepan. Bring slowly to a full boil, stirring constantly, and boil briskly for 1 minute. Cool to lukewarm. Add vanilla. Beat until thick enough to spread.
  • If it gets too thick, add some cream or soften over hot water. Makes enough for 2 (8-inch) layers.
