Ingredients

  • 3 c. bread flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. butter or oleo
  • 1/4 c. evaporated milk
  • 1/4 c. hot water
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 cakes or pkg. yeast
  • 2 c. corn meal
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 6 Tbsp. chopped onion
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 2 c. buttermilk
  • red pepper to taste

Method

  • Mix all dry ingredients.
  • Add chopped onion, then milk and egg, beaten together.
  • Drop by small spoonfuls into boiling deep fat.
  • They will float when done.
  • Drain on brown paper.
  • Serves 8.
