Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. ginger
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c.molasses
  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar

Method

  • Sift together flour and spices; set aside.
  • Cream together sugar and margarine; add molasses and egg.
  • In a small bowl, mix baking soda, water and vinegar.
  • Alternate adding flour and liquid to creamed mixture.
  • Chill dough and form balls; roll in additional sugar.
  • Bake on greased sheets at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
  • Makes 3 dozen.
