Ingredients
- 1 medium head cabbage
- 1 can dried lima or butter beans
- 4 slices buttered bread, cut in fourths
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- black pepper
- 1 can evaporated milk
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
Method
- Cut cabbage in fourths and boil in salted water to cover.
- In another pot, put beans, cream, butter and a little salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then add cornstarch which has been dissolved in 1/2 cup water. Cook until smooth.
- Place a layer of cabbage, then a layer of bean mixture into casserole dish until it is full.
- Cover top of dish with bread cubes and bake until bread is brown.
