Ingredients
- 5 tsp. (1/2 oz.) baking ammonia
- 1 c. milk
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 eggs
- 5 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. oil of lemon
Method
- Dissolve ammonia in milk at least 1/2 hour before baking. Cream the shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add beaten eggs.
- Mix well. Add part of flour and salt alternately with milk mixture and oil of lemon. Mix well, adding flour until dough is easy to handle. Roll out about 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick. Cut out and bake at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes, just until they are lightly brown. Cookies can be frosted.
