Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. uncooked oats
  • 1/2 c. softened butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 c. brown sugar

Method

  • Pour boiling water over oats; cover and let stand 20 minutes. Beat butter until creamy; gradually add sugars and beat until fluffy.
  • Blend in vanilla and eggs.
  • Add oat mixture; mix well. Sift together flour, soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Add to creamed mixture and mix well.
  • Pour batter into well-greased and floured 9-inch square pan.
  • Bake in preheated moderate oven at 350° for 50 to 55 minutes.
  • Do not remove from pan.
  • Spread Lazy Daisy Frosting (recipe follows) over top and broil as directed.
