Ingredients

  • 3 T. butter
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • Add:
  • 1 T. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3/4 C. mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1/3 C. green pepper, chopped
  • Add
  • 2 (8 oz. can) tomato sauce
  • 1 (3-1/2 oz. can) tomato paste
  • Add spices to tomato mixture;
  • 1 tsp. poppy seed
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. basil
  • Mix together in a bowl:
  • 1/2 pint cottage cheese
  • 1/2 lb. cream cheese
  • 1/2 C. sour cream
  • Top Layer:
  • 3/4 C. Parmesan Cheese
  • Mozzarella cheese, grated

Method

  • Brown ground beef in butter. Cook stirring often until meat loses red color. Add and lightly saute onions, mushrooms, garlic, parsley, and green pepper in olive oil in skillet. Add tomato paste, stewed tomatoes, and spices. Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
  • Boil Lasagna noodles in large kettle with enough water not to crowd. Set out on paper towel or wax paper to dry noodles.
  • Oil a large shallow baking dish or 9 x 13 x 2inch pan. Put in a 1st layer of hamburger filling; than a layer of cooked drained lasagna noodles.
  • Then a layer of cottage cheese, cream cheese, and sour cream mixture. (2nd layer) Repeat 1st. and 2nd. layers,
  • placing lasagna noodles between each layer until all ingredients are in casserole. Top with cheeses. (Top layer)
