Ingredients

  • 1 cake yeast, dissolved in 1 Tbsp. warm water
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 6 c. flour
  • 1 lb. Crisco
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 6 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 c. canned milk
  • powdered sugar
  • 1 lb. walnuts
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 6 stiffly beaten egg whites
  • fruit pie filling or jam

Method

  • Combine yeast, sugar, Crisco, eggs, milk and flour.
  • Let stand overnight.
  • Sprinkle powdered sugar on board and roll out a portion of the dough to 1/8-inch thick.
  • Cut into 2-inch squares. Fill with nut filling or fruit filling.
  • Roll up and pinch ends. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
