- 1 cake yeast, dissolved in 1 Tbsp. warm water
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 6 c. flour
- 1 lb. Crisco
- 1 tsp. salt
- 6 egg yolks, beaten
- 1 c. canned milk
- powdered sugar
- 1 lb. walnuts
- 2 c. sugar
- 6 stiffly beaten egg whites
- fruit pie filling or jam
Method
- Combine yeast, sugar, Crisco, eggs, milk and flour.
- Let stand overnight.
- Sprinkle powdered sugar on board and roll out a portion of the dough to 1/8-inch thick.
- Cut into 2-inch squares. Fill with nut filling or fruit filling.
- Roll up and pinch ends. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
