Ingredients

  • 1 c. soft butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 c. blackberry jam
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 c. chopped raisins
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 c. chopped nuts

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar until light; add eggs.
  • Beat well after each egg is added.
  • Add jam and beat well.
  • Add sifted flour, soda, salt, cloves and allspice, alternately with buttermilk, beating until smooth.
  • Stir in raisins and nuts.
  • Pour into 9-inch layer pans.
  • Bake at 325° for about 35 minutes.
  • Frost with caramel frosting.
