Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 c. sifted flour
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • few drops almond flavoring
  • 1 Tbsp. boiling water

Method

  • Cream Crisco, margarine and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  • Dissolve soda in buttermilk.
  • Alternate adding flour and buttermilk, starting and ending with flour and beating well after each addition.
  • Add flavoring.
  • Add boiling water and beat well.
  • Bake in largest size stem pan (one made all together is best) which has been greased and floured.
  • Bake in 300° oven for 1 1/4 hours or until golden brown.
