Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 stick or oleo or butter
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. soda dissolved in buttermilk
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 c. blackberry jam with seeds or seedless
  • 2 c. flour

Method

  • Combine sugar and oleo and beat well.
  • Add egg, cinnamon, nutmeg and beat well. Gradually add flour and buttermilk with soda dissolved in buttermilk and beat.
  • Then add jam and mix through batter well.
  • Grease pan.
  • Pour in mixture and bake at 350° for about 45 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and cool for 10 minutes, then turn out on cake plate and finish cooling before icing.
  • Makes 2 layers or 1 oblong cake.
  • Ice with caramel icing.
  • This was my Mother's recipe.
