Ingredients

  • 1 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 c. cocoa
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 3/4 c. hot tap water
  • 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Method

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Mix flour, sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder and salt in ungreased 9 x 9-inch pan.
  • In bowl, mix oil, milk and vanilla.
  • Add to dry ingredients and mix with a fork until most of the lumps are gone (a few minutes).
  • Sprinkle with the mixture of brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa.
  • Pour very hot water over batter.
