Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar; add spices and flour.
  • Mix well. Reserve 3/4 cup of this mixture for the top.
  • To the rest, add egg, buttermilk, etc.
  • Pour mixture into greased and floured 2-quart ovenproof glass baking dish.
  • Cover top with crumbles. Bake 30 to 35 minutes at 350°.
  • Serve with butter.
