Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. water
  • 8 large cooking apples, peeled and quartered
  • 5 large ripe pears, cored and quartered
  • 2 ripe bananas, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tsp. grated orange rind
  • 1/3 c. fresh orange juice

Method

  • Combine water, apples and pears in 5-quart kettle.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until fruit is soft.
  • Stir in bananas.
  • Put fruit through food mill or sieve; return to kettle and stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Cook over medium heat until thick, about 1 hour, stirring frequently.
  • Cool, then pour into jars and refrigerate.
  • Makes 6 pints.
