Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 3/4 to 1 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 1 c. nuts

Method

  • In a 13 x 9-inch pan, put brown sugar and water and let come to a boil.
  • Mix sugar, flour, milk, baking powder, salt and vanilla, then add dates and nuts.
  • The trick is to add pudding to hot syrup without disturbing syrup much.
  • Spoon evenly into syrup.
  • Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.
  • May need to adjust time if oven is not accurate.
