Ingredients

  • 4 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 2 c. raisins
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. oil

Method

  • Mix baking soda and boiling water and pour over raisins; let stand overnight.
  • Do not stir in the morning.
  • Add remaining ingredients to raisin mixture; mix well.
  • Grease and flour three 1-pound coffee cans and divide mixture evenly.
  • Bake at 350° for 1 hour or until done.
  • Cool 1/2 hour in cans before removing breads. Place cans on side and turn until bread is loosened.
  • Slice and serve with butter or cream cheese.
