Ingredients

  • 1 bag 7 bean mix, rinsed and soaked over night or 1 bag 15 bean mix
  • 7 cups water
  • 1 ham bone
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 hot chili peppers or 1 dried chili
  • 2 teaspoons mixed herbs
  • 1/2 cup dried parsley
  • 1/4 cup summer savory
  • 1/4 cup cumin seed
  • 2 teaspoons fennel seeds
  • 2 teaspoons caraway seeds
  • 2 teaspoons dill seeds
  • 2 teaspoons cracked coriander seeds
  • 2 teaspoons sweet basil
  • 2 teaspoons dried chervil
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon lemon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon sage
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon lavender
  • 1 teaspoon sweet marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 (16 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 carrot, sliced
  • 1 stalk celery, sliced with leaves
  • 2 medium potatoes, diced
  • 4 ounces green beans, trimmed and chopped
  • 1 -3 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 drops honey
  • minced fresh green herbs

Method

  • Boil the drained, soaked beans with the water, bone, bay leaf and chili in a large pot.
  • Reduce to a simmer and simmer for 3 hours.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 1 hour longer.
  • This was a requested recipe and in my comments I said that if you dont have all the ingredients for the herb mix dont worry about it.
  • Shake in what you got.
  • If you go out and buy everything required in the spices-you're looking at around 50 bucks!
