Ingredients

  • 1 c. dried pinto or navy beans
  • 3 qt. water
  • 1 (1 lb. 12 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 1 c. diced celery
  • 2 c. chopped onion
  • 2 c. chopped carrots
  • 2 c. diced potatoes
  • 4 beef bouillon cubes
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 tsp. basil leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1/2 lb. hamburger

Method

  • Heat water and beans to boiling and boil for 2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let stand 1 hour.
  • Reheat and cook for 20 minutes. Then add all other ingredients, except hamburger.
  • Heat to boiling.
  • Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour.
