Ingredients
- 1 c. dried pinto or navy beans
- 3 qt. water
- 1 (1 lb. 12 oz.) can tomatoes
- 1 c. diced celery
- 2 c. chopped onion
- 2 c. chopped carrots
- 2 c. diced potatoes
- 4 beef bouillon cubes
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/4 tsp. basil leaves
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1 1/2 lb. hamburger
Method
- Heat water and beans to boiling and boil for 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let stand 1 hour.
- Reheat and cook for 20 minutes. Then add all other ingredients, except hamburger.
- Heat to boiling.
- Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour.
