Ingredients
- 4 c. plain flour
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 c. shortening
Method
- Put the 4 cups plain flour in a large mixing bowl.
- Make a hole in the middle by pressing the flour to the side.
- Add sugar, eggs, buttermilk with baking soda dissolved in it and shortening. Work with hands until the dough is stiff enough to handle.
- Roll to 1/8-inch thick.
- Cut and sprinkle with nutmeg, coconut or anything desired.
- Bake in a 400° oven for 10 minutes.
- Makes about 60 tea cakes.
