Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 Tbsp. milk
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. oatmeal
  • 1 c. raisins
  • black walnuts (optional)

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Cream shortening, sugar and eggs.
  • Add milk, soda, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
  • Cook raisins in a little water until tender.
  • Mix flour and oatmeal, then add to shortening mixture.
  • Add raisins and water that raisins were cooked in.
  • Add 1 capful of vinegar.
  • Mix well.
  • Drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake until golden brown.
