Ingredients
- 4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 c. lukewarm milk
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 small egg
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. melted butter
- 2 tsp. ground cardamom
- sugar and chopped almonds as topping
Method
- Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup milk.
- Mix remaining milk, sugar, egg, salt, butter and cardamom in a large bowl.
- Add a small amount of the flour and mix well.
- Add yeast and remaining flour, beating with a wooden spoon until dough is smooth and firm. Sprinkle dough with a bit of flour; cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk, about 2 hours.
- Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth.
- Preheat oven to 375°.
