Ingredients

  • 4 Tablespoons Crisco
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons cold water

Method

  • In a food processor, cream crisco, add sugar gradually and cream thoroughly. Blend in mollases.
  • Sift flour with spices and salt. Stir 1/2 into molasses mixture alternating with the 1/4 cup water. Mix last of flour in by hand.
  • Dissolve baking soda in 1 1/2 Tablespoons water and blend in dough.
  • Chill dough, then roll out 1/2 inch thick on lightly floured board. Form "Gingies" with 2 1/2 inch cookie cutter.
  • Place gingies far apart on greased baking sheet. Bake 15-18 minutes in a moderate (350) oven. Do not overbake. Frost, serve, enjoy!
