Ingredients
- 1 c. butter or margarine, softened
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. molasses
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. water
- 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp. ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
Method
- Beat butter in large bowl at medium speed of electric mixer; gradually add sugar, beating well.
- Add molasses; beat well. Combine soda and water, stirring until soda dissolves.
- Add to creamed mixture.
- Combine flour and remaining ingredients; add to creamed mixture, mixing well.
- Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheets and flatten slightly with a flat bottomed glass dipped in flour.
- Bake at 350° for 9 to 10 minutes or until done.
- Cool slightly on cookie sheet; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
- Yields 8 dozen.
