Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 Tbsp. dark molasses
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • sugar (for rolling balls)

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add egg, molasses, flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt.
  • Blend until smooth dough forms.
  • Stir in semi-sweet chocolate pieces.
  • Shape into 1-inch balls.
  • Roll in sugar.
  • Place on greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes.
