Ingredients

  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
  • ice cream (optional)

Method

  • Heat milk, cocoa and egg in double boiler, stirring constantly until thickened.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in shortening until melted.
  • Add all mixed dry ingredients to cocoa mixture until smooth.
  • Mixture will be thick.
  • Spread in 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and walnuts.
  • Bake at 350° for about 35 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean.
  • Top with ice cream.
