Ingredients
- 2 2/3 packages yeast
- 1/3 cup warm water
- 1 quart milk, scalded
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 6 teaspoons salt
- 7-9 cups flour
- shortening for frying
Method
- Add yeast to warm water to dissolve.
- Combine milk, sugar, shortening and salt; add yeast.
- Gradually add flour until a round ball forms.
- May be beaten in mixer with dough hook attachment. Cover with cloth and let dough rise until double.
- Drop from tablespoon into melted shortening and fry like doughnuts until golden brown.
- Serve with preserves, apple butter, honey, or syrup. Yields 7 dozen biscuits.
