Ingredients

  • 5 small onions, finely sliced crosswise
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 3 (10 1/2 oz.) cans beef consomme
  • 2 (10 1/2 oz.) cans water
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. salt or 1 beef bouillon cube
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 8 slices French bread, cut 1-inch thick
  • 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1/3 c. grated Parmesan cheese

Method

  • Separate onions into rings and cook in melted butter until glossy.
  • Add consomme, water, Worcestershire sauce, salt or cube and pepper.
  • Bring to boil.
  • Cover tightly and cook over low heat for 15 minutes.
