Ingredients

  • 3 large onions
  • 1 qt. beef broth
  • 1/4 c. white wine or sherry
  • 4 slices thick sliced bread
  • Parmesan cheese
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • salt
  • Swiss cheese, grated
  • 2 Tbsp. butter

Method

  • Preheat broiler.
  • Butter both sides of bread.
  • Arrange on baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  • Broil 3 to 5 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cut into squares and set aside.
  • Slice onions thinly.
  • Melt butter in large skillet and add onions.
  • Saute over medium heat about 15 minutes or until onions turn light golden color.
  • Heat broth in saucepan.
  • Add sauteed onions.
  • Season with salt to taste.
