Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. dry yeast (mix with 1/4 c. warm water)
  • 2/3 c. scalded milk (5 1/2 oz.)
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. melted butter
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 grated lemon rind
  • 3/4 tsp. salt

Method

  • In large bowl, put milk.
  • Slowly beat in sugar, salt and butter.
  • Then add eggs and 1 cup flour.
  • Mix in slowly.
  • Then add yeast mixture and mix well.
  • Add vanilla and lemon and mix.
  • Add rest of flour, little at a time.
  • Keep mixing until dough is soft. Grease large bowl.
  • Place dough in flour 1 hour.
  • Punch down. Let it rise for 30 minutes.
  • Then roll and braid; form into a circle.
  • Place on a cookie sheet for 30 minutes.
  • Brush 1 egg and 1 teaspoon milk.
  • Sprinkle colored candies all over.
  • Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
