Ingredients
- 2 pkg. dry yeast (mix with 1/4 c. warm water)
- 2/3 c. scalded milk (5 1/2 oz.)
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. melted butter
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 grated lemon rind
- 3/4 tsp. salt
Method
- In large bowl, put milk.
- Slowly beat in sugar, salt and butter.
- Then add eggs and 1 cup flour.
- Mix in slowly.
- Then add yeast mixture and mix well.
- Add vanilla and lemon and mix.
- Add rest of flour, little at a time.
- Keep mixing until dough is soft. Grease large bowl.
- Place dough in flour 1 hour.
- Punch down. Let it rise for 30 minutes.
- Then roll and braid; form into a circle.
- Place on a cookie sheet for 30 minutes.
- Brush 1 egg and 1 teaspoon milk.
- Sprinkle colored candies all over.
- Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
