Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. cocoa
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. boiling water

Method

  • Mix dry ingredients in large mixing bowl.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla.
  • Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Remove from mixer and stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
  • Pour into 2 greased and floured layer pans or one 13 x 9-inch pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes for layers, 35 to 40 minutes for the 13 x 9-inch pan or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool 10 minutes.
