Ingredients
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water (105~ to 115~)
- 1/3 c. shortening, melted and cooled
- 1/4 c. sugar
- dash of salt
- dash of ground nutmeg (optional)
- 3/4 c. milk, scalded (105~ to 115~)
- 2 eggs
- 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
Method
- Combine yeast and water in a large bowl.
- Let stand for 5 minutes.
- Add melted shortening, sugar, salt and nutmeg, if used. Add milk and eggs; stir until blended.
- Gradually add 1 cup flour. Add remaining flour, beating until batter is smooth and satiny. Don't use too much flour, the dough should be soft.
