Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water (105~ to 115~)
  • 1/3 c. shortening, melted and cooled
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • dash of salt
  • dash of ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 3/4 c. milk, scalded (105~ to 115~)
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour

Method

  • Combine yeast and water in a large bowl.
  • Let stand for 5 minutes.
  • Add melted shortening, sugar, salt and nutmeg, if used. Add milk and eggs; stir until blended.
  • Gradually add 1 cup flour. Add remaining flour, beating until batter is smooth and satiny. Don't use too much flour, the dough should be soft.
